Marrybrown Plans 100 Egyptian Outlets in Deal With Talaat Moustafa Group’s Retail Arm
The Malaysian halal fast-food chain signed in February, with six Cairo restaurants targeted for 2026 and 100 outlets over ten years, in what Bernama calls the property group’s foray into food and beverage.

Marrybrown, the Malaysian halal quick-service chain, signed a franchise agreement on 5 February 2026 to enter Egypt with Talaat Moustafa Retail (TMR), a subsidiary of Talaat Moustafa Group (TMG). The plan is 100 outlets in Egypt over ten years, with an initial rollout of six restaurants in Cairo targeted for 2026, according to a Bernama report that the Malaysian Franchise Association republished on 10 February. We found no report of a first Egyptian outlet having opened as of 14 October.
The agreement was signed at Marrybrown’s headquarters in Johor Bahru by the group’s executive director, Datuk Joshua Liew, and TMR’s chief executive, Omar Hisham Talaat Moustafa. Marrybrown operates more than 500 outlets in 16 countries, with a strong presence across the Gulf, Africa, East Asia, Oceania and parts of Europe. Its chief executive, Daniel Chan, called Egypt one of the most compelling consumer markets in the Middle East and Africa, citing a population above 110 million, and described the chain as the first halal fast-food brand from Malaysia to enter it.
A property developer steps into food
TMG is better known for property. Its own site lists communities including Madinaty and Al Rehab City in New Cairo, and a hospitality portfolio built with Four Seasons. Bernama’s account describes the Marrybrown deal as TMG’s foray into the food and beverage industry, although the group has long housed restaurants in its malls: Food Business Africa reported in December 2021 that Open Air Mall in Madinaty had opened a food hall with more than 30 restaurants.

Omar Hisham Talaat Moustafa said the deal was “a natural extension of our strategy to introduce best-in-class global concepts into our communities,” according to Bernama. Bernama’s account adds that TMG’s portfolio, which spans residential cities, commercial centres, shopping malls, hotels and leisure destinations, gives the chain a platform for a phased rollout.
What to watch
The 100-outlet figure is a ten-year ambition. The only near-term milestone in the coverage is the six Cairo restaurants due in 2026, with under three months of the year left and no locations named in the reports we read. The announcement does not say where in Cairo the first restaurants will open.
The deal is one of several ways international brands are reaching Egypt through local partners. Our report on Nobu’s first Cairo restaurant shows the high-end version, with developer SODIC as the partner, and our analysis of the franchise pipeline connecting London, Dubai and Riyadh looks at how the model works across the region.
