Riyadh Season 2026 Opens on 21 October: What It Means for Restaurants
The seventh edition of the entertainment festival is scheduled to begin on 21 October and run for ten weeks. The announced programme says little about food, but last season’s numbers show how much dining sits inside it.

Riyadh Season, the kingdom’s largest entertainment festival, is scheduled to begin on 21 October 2026. It will be the seventh edition, announced under the slogan “Big Time” by Turki Alalshikh, chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, and its programme is billed as ten weeks long. For restaurants the announcement is thin: the reports published so far list zones and headline events, and neither Gulf News nor TradeArabia mentions dining. Last season’s numbers, though, show how much of the festival is food.
What has been announced
The programme will include boxing and wrestling matches, UFC bouts, the Six Kings Slam tennis tournament, concerts, theatre, stand-up comedy and children’s and family entertainment. Boulevard World is due to return with three new country pavilions, the Netherlands, Portugal and Yemen. Boulevard City will reopen with new entertainment, Wonder Garden will offer rides and activities, and The Groves, the Farmers’ Market and the Ana Arabia exhibition at VIA Riyadh are also listed, with further programmes planned across the capital. On a 21 October start, ten weeks takes the season to the end of December.
What last season looked like for dining
The sixth edition offers the best guide. Ahead of last year’s opening, Gulf News reported that Boulevard World would carry 1,600 shops and 350 dining venues, and that the Beast Land zone would have 40 restaurants. The season was announced with 11 main entertainment zones and partnerships with more than 2,100 companies, 95 per cent of them Saudi. Those are pre-season announcements, not audited results, but they show the scale of dining built into a single zone.
The 2025 programme also showed how the festival renews itself each year. It was announced with 15 championships and 34 exhibitions and festivals, and Boulevard World added themed zones for Kuwait, South Korea and Indonesia. This year’s additions, the Netherlands, Portugal and Yemen, follow the same pattern of new countries each season, which is a reminder that the zones change even when the format stays familiar.
The Groves is the clearest example of a zone built around eating. FACT described it as a mix of dining and entertainment in Ar Rafiah, run with the Saudi General Entertainment Authority and SIHAMCO, that was due to run from 5 November 2025 to 19 July 2026. Its line-up included a Persian restaurant with live music, a Syrian restaurant, a Neapolitan pizzeria, a theatrical dessert experience and a lakeside picnic setup. The sixth edition went on to report 17 million visitors, according to TradeArabia’s tally on 17 February, some four months after its 10 October opening. This year’s announcement describes ten weeks of entertainment.
Four things for restaurants to watch
The announcements do not say what the season means for restaurants, so what follows is our reading of the numbers rather than a forecast.
- Who is inside the zones. Last season’s organisers reported partnerships with more than 2,100 companies and 350 dining venues in Boulevard World alone. The 2026 line-up has not been published in the reports reviewed.
- What happens outside them. Restaurants outside the zones face a different question: spillover, meaning whether visitors extend an evening into the rest of the city.
- VIA Riyadh. The Ana Arabia exhibition is in a district that is also home to restaurants such as Berenjak, which puts a season attraction in a dining destination.
- Delivery. Riyadh generated 44 per cent of the kingdom’s delivery-platform orders in the first quarter, on the Transport General Authority’s count. Nationwide, orders in the second quarter passed 132 million, up 30.5 per cent on a year earlier, according to the authority’s index as reported by Saudi Gazette. How Riyadh’s share moves while the season runs will be worth watching; the same figures are unpacked in our delivery analysis.
On the evidence of last season’s scale, the most direct exposure to the crowds will fall to operators inside the zones. For the rest of the city the effect will depend on spillover, and that will only become visible in the weeks after 21 October.
